Mother's Day

From you we learned tough-mindedness

From you we learned bonds of love

You taught us to have faith in another day

And the power of Heaven above

You led us by example

To be honest, committed and loyal

You taught us the value of a good belly laugh

And that friends and family are royal

You told us to turn the other cheek

When others don’t have our best interests at heart

You encouraged us to keep our heads in our books

In hopes we’d turn out smart

From you we learned ambition

To “never put off ‘til tomorrow what could be done today”

You told us riches couldn’t be measured in dollars,

That good deeds and kindness far outweigh

Regardless of how we would turn out

You would always be very proud

And now when we need your sound advice

We can find you soaring on a cloud

Some mothers are worth celebrating

Some others should have never been

But this special day was invented

For us to savor you time and time again.
